Born in Zurich in 1971, Peter Marvey has been fascinated by magic since he was a child. He soon discovered his talent for the art and invested all his energy and free time into it, training his hands daily under his school desk with the belief that “everything is possible.” His passion for magic proved more successful than his studies in architecture, as recognized by various international juries, show business celebrities, and even the royal family of Monaco, who have honored his art with the highest awards. However, what the audience sees on stage is only about 1% of the total work, which includes daily finger exercises, inventing, choreography, psychology, body language, music editing, lighting, show production, experimenting, patenting, blueprinting, costume design, graphics, prop building, materials science, mechanics, organization and logistics, and collaborating with people from around the world.
Peter Marvey is a night owl who draws inspiration from the night. He enjoys traveling to distant warm countries, wild oceans, lonely beaches, mysterious forests, and vibrant cities. His favorite dishes include green Thai curry and sushi, and he enjoys photography and funny movies. He is fascinated by modern dream homes and haunted castles with secret passages.
Peter Marvey has redefined the art of magic. He is probably the most original illusionist of our time. During his entire career as a magician he has never presented an existing illusion. His illusions are unique – and always have been. Peter Marvey is not only a magician but also an inventor. He knows that the art of presenting illusions is not at its peak, but still in its infancy.
Peter Marvey’s latest illusions are open and transparent. The usual cases and coverings are not used. Peter Marvey has done away with big props and machines. The artist remains in the center, his magic, and the basic dreams of man. Nowadays every child knows what machines and computers can do; they do not seem magical any longer. Illusions are at their most incredible where there are no visible props. This was a basic fact that Peter Marvey first understood during his early studies in the field of magic.
He is still implementing his theory, even though it is a lot more difficult creating miracles without visible magic props.
In addition, many of Peter Marvey’s illusions work in all lighting conditions, and not just on a dark stage.
Even daylight is fine. The audience can watch from all sides and from close by. That’s how Peter Marvey creates an unparalleled visual experience with his illusions – which can rarely be found elsewhere.
The best example is the illusion ‘Ultimate Cut’, where Peter Marvey’s legs, separated from his upper body, pedal a unicycle in bright light without any supporting boxes or drapes, surrounded by the audience. It’s the most convincing magical separation of a human in the art of magic.
Peter Marvey calls this new generation of illusions ‘Close up illusions’. Big magical illusions that can be watched from very near, as for example in Peter Marvey’s theater at the Magic House in Feusisberg.
